Custom WS2812B WS2815 LED Strip Solution for an Italian EV Charging Project: From Design to Finished Product

On 31 July 2022, a customer from Italy found us through website and contacted us about a customised LED lighting project. The customer was developing an EV charging product and needed a lighting assembly that could fit perfectly into the structure of his product.
The customer's design drawing was very clear, with detailed information about the LED strip type, length, LED density, waterproof rating, male and female cable lengths and product colour. After confirming the requirements, the customer selected us as his supplier and entrusted us with the customised project.

WS2812B 5V Addressable LED Strip

The customer selected a WS2812B 5V individually addressable RGB LED strip. Unlike conventional LED strips, WS2812B LEDs can be digitally controlled to create full‑colour RGB effects, dynamic colour changes, chasing effects and other lighting patterns, making them suitable for modern EV charging equipment and smart devices.
The customer required different LED strip lengths with IP65 waterproof protection. He also specified that the LED strip should first be fixed into the aluminium profile and then encapsulated, helping achieve the required waterproofing and overall assembly structure.

A 13–13.5 mm Narrow Aluminium Profile for Tight Spaces

One of the key challenges was the aluminium profile size. Due to the structure of the charging product, the customer required the profile width to be approximately 13 mm or 13.5 mm.
This was a relatively specialised requirement for a conventional LED project. Instead of asking the customer to choose from standard profiles, we searched for a suitable aluminium profile based on the actual dimensions of his product. After engineering evaluation, we found a narrow profile that was highly suitable for the project and recommended it to the customer.
The customer was very satisfied with the profile dimensions and overall appearance.

n addition to the dimensional requirements, the customer also had a clear requirement for the appearance: all visible components needed to be black.
We therefore used a WS2812B 5V addressable LED strip with a black PCB, a black aluminium profile and a black PC cover. When the LEDs are off, the assembly blends naturally into the charging product. When illuminated, the RGB lighting effects become the visual focus against the dark structure.

Solving the Cable Routing Challenge
During the project discussion, the customer requested that the male and female cables at both ends of the LED strip should be soldered and bent according to the installation requirements.
However, we found that the aluminium profile had end caps on both sides. If the cables came out from the ends and needed to be bent, they could interfere with the end caps and potentially affect the overall sealing structure.

Instead of simply telling the customer that the original design was not practical, we proposed a better solution: creating an opening at the bottom of the aluminium profile and routing the cable through the bottom.
This solution solved the conflict between the cables and the end caps, allowing the end caps to be installed normally while also making the product easier to install. This reflects an important part of our approach to customised LED projects: we do not simply manufacture according to requirements; we also identify potential problems and provide practical engineering solutions.

Custom Lengths to Match the Charging Equipment

The customer required different lengths of WS2812B 5V addressable LED strips and aluminium profiles to create complete lighting assemblies for the charging equipment. We customised the products according to the customer's dimensions instead of supplying standard lengths for the customer to cut himself.

For long‑distance projects, customers may also be interested in solutions such as led strip lights 15m, where voltage drop, power supply and power distribution need to be carefully considered.
For addressable LED projects, customers may also compare different LED densities. For example, a 144 led per meter strip ws2812b can be considered for applications requiring higher pixel density and more detailed lighting effects.
For 12V addressable applications, customers may also consider a ws2815 12v led strip. WS2815 and WS2812B have different voltage and control characteristics, so the right product should be selected according to the actual application. For customers looking for led strip ws2815, we can also recommend suitable solutions based on their project requirements.

Expedited Production for On‑Time Delivery

In addition to the customisation requirements, the customer also had a clear delivery deadline. As the project involved custom lengths, aluminium profiles, waterproofing, cables and assembly, we needed to speed up the production process while maintaining product quality.
We prioritised the project and carefully coordinated the production process, allowing us to complete the products within the customer's required timeframe.
After receiving the products, the customer was very satisfied with the final result and shared photos of the completed product with us. The finished product demonstrated how the original design had been successfully turned into a practical customised LED solution.

Custom LED Manufacturing Is More Than Production

This Italian EV charging project involved multiple customised requirements, including a WS2812B 5V addressable LED strip, IP65 waterproofing, a 13–13.5 mm narrow aluminium profile, black PCB, black aluminium profile, black PC cover, different lengths and customised cables.
Each requirement may seem simple individually, but combining them into one complete product requires product knowledge, engineering experience and manufacturing capability.
When the cable routing created a structural conflict with the end caps, we helped solve the practical installation problem through the bottom cable exit solution. This represents the value we aim to provide: not simply manufacturing the product the customer requests, but helping the customer find a more practical solution.

From Customer Design to a Real‑World Solution

We believe that a good LED solution should fit the customer's product rather than forcing the customer's product to fit a standard LED strip.
Whether the customer needs a WS2812B 5V solution, WS2815 12V LED strip, high‑density LED strip, waterproof LED strip, custom‑length LED strip or a complete LED strip and aluminium profile assembly, we can evaluate the project based on the actual application, including product specifications, structure, waterproofing, cable routing and manufacturing processes.
This project once again demonstrates that true LED customisation is not simply about changing the length or colour of a product. More importantly, it is about understanding the customer's product and using engineering and manufacturing capabilities to solve real‑world problems.
Your design can be the starting point. Our engineering experience can help turn it into a practical LED lighting solution that can be manufactured, installed and used.
