Custom DMX512 Lighting System for Wine Cabinet in a Hong Kong Restaurant

This was the vision of a restaurant owner from Hong Kong when designing his new venue.
He wanted guests to be captivated the moment they stepped through the door — drawn to a dazzling wine cabinet where every bottle is softly illuminated, as if whispering its own story.
Client’s Requirement: Give every section of the wine cabinet its own “soul.”
During the initial discussions, the client shared the overall design plan of the restaurant.
He emphasized that the wine cabinet would be the visual centerpiece of the space — it had to balance both artistry and controllability.
The entire wine wall was composed of 60 individual compartments.
He wanted each one to have independent control over brightness and on/off settings, allowing flexible lighting adjustments for different times and moods — for instance, bright and clean during the day, soft and restrained at night.
The system used was a DMX controller, and the client expected the lighting to deliver a pure, gentle white tone that would perfectly highlight the texture of the bottles, creating a refined yet understated atmosphere.
Technical Challenge: Balancing precision and aesthetics — what seems like a simple “wine cabinet lighting” project actually comes with many challenges.
1. Multiple-channel control complexity
Sixty compartments means sixty independent DMX addresses — requiring strict address allocation and logical setup. Any mistake could cause signal interference or control chaos.
2. Extremely limited space
Each cabinet has only a fingertip-wide space for wiring. Hiding the cables while keeping them serviceable is a major challenge.
3. Very high requirements for brightness and color-temperature uniformity
Even slight differences across the same wine wall look jarring. The LED strips therefore must have excellent consistency and voltage stability.
4. Signal response speed and synchronization
When many channels operate simultaneously, lighting responses must be precise and delay-free; otherwise the whole system’s sense of layering and atmosphere will be ruined.

After fully understanding the client’s needs, we developed a complete lighting solution.
We recommended using white dmx512 led strip — these DMX LED Strip support precise multi-channel control, ensure stable signal transmission, and provide smooth dimming that integrates seamlessly with the DMX control system.
Our suggestions to the client included:
* Reserving an independent installation channel for each cabinet compartment to facilitate wiring and heat dissipation;
* Using L-shaped connectors for compact corner wiring;
* Providing detailed wiring and control diagrams based on the cabinet structure to help the installation team work efficiently.
Before shipment, we conducted a full system lighting test, simulating the on-site DMX signal operation to ensure accurate and reliable control response.
Detail Optimization: Small Tweaks, Big Improvement;The client was very satisfied with the overall lighting effect, especially praising the “clean look” of the light and the responsive control.
At the same time, he offered a thoughtful suggestion — the adhesive could be a bit stronger for easier installation.
We immediately upgraded it to red 3M adhesive, which maintains strong adhesion even in high-humidity environments — perfect for restaurants where temperature and humidity fluctuate frequently.
Final Result: The Warmth of Light and Shadow
Final Purchase from the Client: 100 meters of DMX512 white LED strips; 80 board-to-wire connectors; 200 meters of extension cables.
A few weeks later, we received installation photos from the client.
In the images, soft white light flows out from behind each cabinet section, the glass reflects delicate patterns of light and shadow, and the wine glows with a warm, amber hue.
When all the lights are turned on together, the entire wine cabinet seems to “breathe” — at that moment, the space feels calm and restrained, yet utterly captivating.
