IP68 Neon LED Strip for Real Underwater Pool Lighting: A Professional 16×16mm Solution

When searching for a pool led strip, many customers first focus on whether the product is waterproof. However, waterproof does not necessarily mean suitable for long‑term underwater use. Ordinary led outdoor light strips may withstand rain, splashes and moisture, but underwater pool applications involve continuous immersion, water pressure and exposure to pool chemicals.

Why Is IP68 Important for Underwater Pool Applications?

IP65 is mainly designed for protection against splashes and water jets, while IP67 is generally associated with temporary immersion under specified conditions. For products that need to remain underwater, an IP68 solution designed for immersion should be considered.
To learn more about waterproof ratings, please read how to choose the right ip rating for led strips.
However, IP68 does not mean that a product can be used indefinitely at any depth. The permitted installation depth and operating conditions should always be confirmed according to the manufacturer's product design.
Our IP68 neon LED strip is recommended for installation at a maximum depth of up to 3 metres underwater, making it suitable for swimming pools, water features and other lighting projects involving long‑term contact with water.

Our Current Underwater Solution: 16×16mm

At present, our IP68 neon LED strip designed for genuine underwater applications is available in a 16×16 mm profile. Compared with smaller neon strips, the 16×16 mm structure provides more internal space for the LEDs, circuitry and overall waterproof encapsulation.
For long‑term underwater use, waterproof performance does not depend only on the surface of the strip. The complete sealing structure must also be considered, including the neon body, end caps and cable exits.

Pool Water Chemistry Is Also Important

Swimming pool neon led strip

Swimming pool water is not simply ordinary tap water. To maintain water quality, pools often use chlorine or other disinfection and water treatment systems. Some pools also use saltwater systems, meaning that chemicals in the water may affect LED strip materials over time.
If the materials are not suitable for long‑term exposure to these chemicals, ageing, discolouration, hardening, cracking or reduced sealing performance may occur. Therefore, when choosing waterproof led strips for pool, it is important to consider not only the IP68 rating but also the material's suitability for the swimming pool environment.

2700K, 12V and Different Lighting Requirements

Different swimming pool projects require different lighting effects. For example, a 2700k led strip light can create a warm and comfortable atmosphere, making it suitable for hotels, villas, spa areas and premium leisure spaces.
Some customers also ask whether an led 12v strip light is suitable for swimming pool projects. Low‑voltage LED systems can be used in relevant applications, but swimming pool safety should not be determined simply by choosing 12V or 24V. The complete power supply, electrical isolation and installation method must also be considered.

What Should Be Considered During Pool Installation?

Choosing an IP68 product is only the first step. Correct installation is equally important.
First, the actual installation depth should be confirmed, and we recommend a maximum depth of 3 metres. Second, the material should be checked for suitability according to the pool water conditions. Finally, the end caps, connecting cables and cable exits must be properly sealed, as these areas require particular attention in the overall waterproof system.
If the product needs to be cut or rewired on site, the correct sealing process must also be followed. Otherwise, the original IP68 waterproof performance may be affected.

Designed for Real Underwater Lighting

Ordinary led outdoor light strips are mainly designed for outdoor environments, while genuine underwater pool lighting must withstand continuous immersion, water pressure, water chemistry and chemical exposure.
Our 16×16 mm IP68 neon LED strip is currently our available specification for underwater applications, with a recommended maximum installation depth of up to 3 metres. If you are looking for a reliable pool led strip solution, we can recommend a suitable product based on your installation dimensions, lighting colour, operating depth and water conditions.
True underwater pool lighting is not just about being waterproof. It is about whether the product can withstand the real underwater environment over the long term.
